Tilt-shift photography: make your photos look like little toys

Posted in Photography by FilipeFreitas on the October 5th, 2007

This is another very cool photography image manipulation. It is called tilt-shift photography, and it requires special lenses. It did before you read this post. This technique makes your photos appear to be photos taken from little toys, but in reality they were normal photos taken from normal places. Look at this photo for example (click the image for fullsize):

This image is perfect for what we’re about to do because it features many ‘components’ (the buildings) across the image. Now, look the result after the manipulation.

Now the buildings look like little toys. I made a video demonstrating how easy it is:

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Notice that you shouldn’t try to reproduce the steps in the video as i use a lot of keyboard shortcuts. You should read this excelent tutorial on Recedinghairline.co.uk. I won’t write my own because the tutorial from RecedingHairline is perfect, maybe i’ll write a portuguese translation. Wikipedia features one example:

MetropolisMag also features several photos on their article about this.
